“If you don’t set goals for yourself, you are doomed to work to achieve the goals of someone else.” – Brian Tracy (Motivational Speaker)
Think about this quote and the food industry
It is great in the New Year to set some goals and make plans for the major areas of your life: Health, Family, Education, Work, Finances and Spirituality.
Lots of people say they want to improve their health, want more money or a better job, perhaps even commit to a course but are you really taking the goal setting seriously? Most would answer with yes I have some goals, those categories are important to me, but pause and think for a moment. Are they?
A) Clearly defined well thought out goals that are central to who you want to be?
B) Are they positively stated in the present tense as if you already have them?
C) Do you have markers and deadlines to measure your progress in some form?
D) Are they written down in black and white to be reviewed every day?
And the list goes on. If you haven’t done this for all the six major areas of your life or they are flimsy then you can bet that there is an industry somewhere that has set some goals for you.
The food industry wants you to develop a habit and eat as much of their product as possible! They are trying to make it as tasty, desirable and easy to prepare as they can with little regard as to how good it is for you. There are using all media available to them to push it under your nose everywhere you look.
If you don’t have a nutritional goal, or rules on eating, then the impulse buys, takeaway meals, comfort eating and convenience foods that are laced with salt, sugar, trans fats, and chemical additives are going to be making you unhealthy, overweight and predisposed to long term disease over a long period of time.
What are other industries are affecting your life?
